Audrey Claire

Hudson Valley Duck BreastAudrey Claire is another one of those BYOBs that was a favorite of mine when I lived in Philly. I remembered the food as both comforting and elegant, with a Mediterranean flare. It’s a little classier than some of our college haunts, but not at all pretentious. We decided on dinner here the night of the marathon.

The space is tiny and and minimally decorated. Somehow, the dimly lit space feels cozy rather than cramped. Our server was friendly without being overbearing. As soon as we sat down and popped open our wine, I knew we were in for a good night.

The menu is split into small and large dishes. We shared a couple of small dishes and each got a large dish.

Grilled Baby Romaine Caesar

For a “small dish,” the Grilled Baby Romaine Caesar was pretty intense! It was topped with crispy lavash bread and a generous amount of shaved locatelli cheese. I hope the grilled caesar fad is here to stay because it really takes the classic to a new level. The creamy dressing slathered on the romaine had a nice acidity that made it feel almost light.

Seared Brussel Sprouts

We also shared the Seared Brussels Sprouts with Shaved Parmesan. The sprouts were beautifully caramelized but retained a nice bite.

Hudson Valley Duck Breast

For my entree, I ordered the Hudson Valley Duck Breast. It was served over pureed sweet potatoes with a refreshing salad on the side. As you can probably tell, it was perfectly cooked on the inside and the skin was crisp. The duck itself was so good that I really appreciated the simple accompaniments.

Penne Arrabiata

Matt ordered the Penne Arrabiata. This is one of his favorite pasta dishes, and he said this version did not disappoint.

Baby Rack of Lamb

My mom and Candace both ordered the Feta and Garlic Crusted Baby Rack of Lamb served with smashed red potatoes, asparagus, and yogurt. Like the duck, the lamb was perfectly cooked to medium-rare. I stole a few bites and remembered why I used to always order the lamb at Audrey Clare!

Arctic Char

Katie got the Arctic Char with Cherry Tomato Risotto, which was one of the specials that night. She said it was really delicious.

Rice Pudding

For dessert, we shared the Rice Pudding. This was really the only dish of the night we weren’t crazy about. It didn’t have the intense vanilla flavor that I like in rice puddings (but maybe that’s personal preference), and it was too cold and thick.

Bread Pudding

The Bread Pudding fared much better. I’m a bad food blogger and don’t even remember what type of bread pudding it was, just that it was extremely tasty.

Audrey Claire definitely lived up to my memories and was the perfect way to end our amazing Philly trip. I need to make sure I don’t wait another two years to go back!
