Madrid, 12/26/11

After spending Christmas Eve and Christmas day with family friends, we used yesterday to explore Madrid. My mom and I wandered around starting at the Puerta del Sol and ended up at one of her old favorite tapas restaurants on Calle Serrano. Here are some quick highlights.

We spent some time exploring the Mercato de San Miguel. We had already had lunch unfortunately, but they had a lot of fun food to look at.

We each tried one croquette with jamon iberico. I couldn’t pass up my one of my favorite foods.

Later in the afternoon, we wandered in a little local bar called Cafeteria Nueva Galicia.

We ordered a glass of wine and they gave us a little plate of jamon Serrano that they carved off of the ham leg.

We also ordered some Patatas Bravas, which are my mom’s favorite.

They gave us another little plate of ham with our second glass of wine. This time, it was a roasted ham, which is a Galician specialty. We didn’t even realize until we got our bill that the wine was only 1 Euro a glass!

Later that night, we found a bar called Bar Miguel Angel. They also give food with every drink, but this time it was an entire plate of tapas.

Finally, we ended up at Jose Luis, which is an old tapas restaurant that my parents used to go to. We weren’t very hungry at this point, so we just split a little albondigas tapa.
