Memorial Day Weekend

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Mine was filled with lots of good eats…

Sourdough Pizza

Matt and I started a sourdough starter recently and used it for the first time in a Sourdough Pizza. We used Serious Eats’ dough recipe and combined it with their vodka sauce pizza recipe. The sourdough flavor was subtle and the shape was clearly a little off, but it was still delicious. I’m guessing the flavor will get more pronounced the older the starter gets?

Bloody Mary

Sunday started with Bloody Marys and the new season of Arrested Development. I just started watching in the past year and I very quickly became hooked.

Horseradish

Matt takes his bloody marys very seriously, so he got some fresh horseradish to grate into them and made celery salt from salt and celery leaves to rim the glasses.

Skips Scramble

The real star of our Arrested Development brunch was the Skip’s Scramble. We toned the original down a bit so that it actually tasted good (though it still looked pretty ridiculous). Our version had sourdough waffles, meatless sausage patties (I swear, they’re delicious), potatoes, and eggs. Some maple syrup on the side was perfect for dunking the more waffley bites into.

Sticky Toffee Date Pudding

After sitting through 4-5 hours of episodes, we desperately needed to get out of the house. We ended up at Abigail’s, which has become our new neighborhood bar. The highlight of our meal was dessert: Sticky Toffee Date Pudding.

Fideau

Finally, we did a low key Memorial Day cookout at my moms on Monday with Fideau.

Pork Skewers

And Pinchos Morunos, or Moorish Pork Kebabs. Great end to the weekend!
