Restaurants: Foundry on Elm

I’ve always have high hopes for Foundry on Elm. It’s so close to my apartment and always has great drinks. The food, however…I want to like it, but it’s usually disappointing. I recently heard they got a new chef though, so Katie and I went for brunch when she visited from San Francisco last weekend. ((We had to carb load for the half-marathon!!))

The Bloody Marys were solid. I’m honestly not too picky when it comes to brunch cocktails. I rarely meet one I don’t like.

Katie got the Barbeque Chicken Sandwich with Raisin Apple Slaw. Her main complaint was the construction of the sandwich. The bun was too small and flimsy to hold up to the big piece of chicken and all of the sauce.

I had the opposite problem with the Cuban Sandwich. The bread was stale and bulky, and way overpowered the filling. I ended up deconstructing it and eating the filling as if it were a charcuterie platter. The side salad, topped with shaved fennel, was at least nicely dressed and fresh.

We both opted for salads instead of fries with our sandwich, but still kind of wanted a few fries. We ordered a side of Fries with Herb Aioli, and I’m glad we did because they were the best part of the meal.

The moral of the story is to come for the fries and the drinks. Don’t bother with the rest.
